7th Coffeenuering Adventure
In the Knick of time.
I thought I’d go to a Starbucks over a mile away, but on the way, figured that I’d already used that outlet before heading down to McMinville. As there is a high density of them, and I had some expiring stars come December 1, I went to the one that’s just down the hill from where I live.
It’s not enough distance to ride here directly so I took a more circuitous route back to here along OR 99W, with nice bike lanes, except over the old bridges. By 2027 a new Light Rail is proposed that should go along the same route and make improvements for cycling and pedestrians.
Anyway, back to “business”. This is the 7th, where I started my week on a Tuesday and kept it to no more than two credit rides per week. Total Distance was 4.7 miles.

6th coffeeneuring ride today
my weeks start on Tuesdays for counting the trips by bicycle to coffee dispensaries. This one was also a trip to the bank as well as heading up for another choir practice. Stopped at one of many Starbucks that exist in this city, yet not visited on any other coffeeeuring trips.
I’d gone 11.7 miles to get here.
Then another 4 miles to get to practice, then later on to home. That is my bike outside, as I wanted to be able to keep a eye on it, Portland suffers a lot of bicycle theft.

Fifth Coffeeneuring trip 2.4 miles RT
Down the hill on a chili morning with the Surly and Travoy combination to run a couple errands. First stop is a mailbox to send back a Netflix DVD. Second is at Fred Meyers to drop off a bag of plastic bags, they seem to accept plastic film. At the site of Freddy’s bottle return center they installed a Bottle Drop center, where prepared bags filled with deposit bottles can be dropped off and counted for me. Thet way, I don’t have to drive about 4 miles and risk waiting up to 15 minutes for a machine to feed it one bottle at a time, oh, and not too fast.
So for $0.55 a 20 pound bag, I can ride my bike, use the trailer, and still get most of my deposits back.

Then it up to my neighborhood Starbucks for a brew. Bring the Travoy trailer inside, keep the bike in sight, take a more traditional coffeeuering photograph. Kudos to the the Showers Pass waterproof gloves, they keep my hands warm on this 44ยบ clear morning with an east wind from the interior.
Happy Sunday.

4Th Coffeenuering trip
Over the hills to my former worksite to get to another choir practice. Got coffee at a genuine Starbucks in the children’s hospital up on Pill Hill.
Round trip distance was 7.0 miles, and I got my usual Pike Place black.

Third Coffeeneuring adventure
From Portland to McMinville for coffee? Sure thing, and the receipt was also good for an open control on this dry cold Permanent. Makes a better coffeeuering photo, but this one doesn’t count.
A 200km route, it’s an out-and-back route, this coffee was at 100km.
The coffee was also effective to head into the headwind that had gotten stronger as we were there. The pastry was needed, as well.
This day did have a creditable event. Even though this is a “pay to play” permanent brevet that cost $0, I did ride to the official start and did buy and enjoy a cup of Joe before starting off, it’s about 2.5 mile from my house to the Multnomah Village start, and not much is open at that time of day.
The drink was a tall Pike Place and here’s an image of the receipt. As I was busy with clothing and paperwork for the brevet, didn’t get a good photo of the cup when I drank it. It turned out to be a colder morning than I expected, It is November, after all.

2nd Coffeeneuring outing
Back Up there for another choir practice.
8.4 miles round trip. 895 ft of elevation gained. That box is where the bike is stored while in street clothes and singing Christmas songs.
The purveyor of the brew is the VA Canteen service, with a license to serve Starbucks in the atrium of the hospital lobby.

1st Coffeeneuring documented today
On the way up to my old worksite and picked up an afternoon dose before a Christmas Choir practice.
5.47 miles to get there and a total of a bit over 9 miles round trip. Got this brew at the coffee stand at the other (OHSU) end of the skybridge that allows personnel and equipment to move between the two institutions. It goes by the name of Skybridge Espresso, but the best of it is that a brewed coffee is free for what they call senior citizens ( age 60 ).

I am recognized for my second R12
After a few issues (3) of my name not appearing in American Randonneur magazine. I got more curious how to get credit. Drafted an email to our RBA, she kindly asked if I'd applied for it on the RUSA website, which I don't ever recall having done before.
I poked around and did find a way on that website, they have all my credited rides on their server. It turns out that the user need only select the first month of the series of 12, and it responded that I earned the award. I went ahead and actually bought a physical award, should see it in a couple weeks.

Completed a second R12
It's in the bag. Another R12. That means 12 consecutive months riding at least a 200km brevet.
I've got the framework in, but the details still need to be filled in
Number 1: 4March17 was the OR Randonneur's Grab Bag 200km in March 2017. That was wet and cold. Time of 13:21
Number 2: 1April17 was the OR Randonneurs Birkie's 200km brevet from Forest Grove to past Birkenfeld and back to Forest Grove. Time of 11:23.
Sealed it with the Three Capes 300km from Forest Grove via the Three Capes and back to Forest Grove. And to make Dieter's R2, did the Permanent #1401 Beaverton-Hagg Lake- Carlton of 203 km.
Number 3: 18May17 was on Ken Mattina's Lunch at Nicks, from Multnomah Village to McMinville and back. Time of 11:12
Number 4: 3June17 was OR Randonneurs Newberg- Scio 200 km brevet and a time of 11:47
Number 5: 19July17 was Ken's Locks and Bagels 205 km permanent. I was lucky to have finished it before the fire in the gorge. Also lucky to have found some of the path and stay (barely) in the time constraints. I got to each control before the cut off time, but left afterwards. So no time in the "bank", except the last segment between St Johns and John's Landing, the start/end location, got a time of 13:24
Number 6: 16Aug17 was another Lunch at Nick's with the Bike Friday. Flatted once and a time of 12:00
Number 7: 11Sept17 on #1470 permanent of Beaverton-Birkenfeld-Beaverton with a time of 11:46
Number 8: 25Oct17 for our first time on Permanent # 1439 Multnomah Village (Outside the Gates of) from Mult Village to the Wheatland Ferry and back up through Forest Grove, Gales Creek, Banks, North Plains, and back into the Urban Growth zone. Got a time 11:17 despite going through Forest Grove to get around the bridge that was closed for repair on Spring Hill Rd on the way to Gales Creek.
Number 9: 17Nov17 with Ken's Mill City Coffee Run, Starts and ends just north of the Boones Bridge, so two crossings of that fast moving traffic bridge. Too boot, a south wind and Friday traffice comng home on Howell Prairie Road with a time of 11:59
Number 10: 1Dec17 on Ken's Outside the Gates of (Multnomah Village), as we liked the route so much, and no high elevations to worry about bad weather. Got a time of 10:41
Number 11: 6Jan18: Ken's Mill City Coffee Run, a Saturday and very little wind. Time of 11:59
Number 12: 10Feb18 Lynn'e Beaverton-Hagg Lk-Carlton permanent with many controls. Time of 12:07
